 ACIM  FOUNDATIONS

Note:  A Course in Miracles is a radical, transformative curriculum and epistemology.  It is a spiritual psychotherapy.  Anyone can learn it with a little willingness.  Understanding the clarifications below will be the foundation for shifting your current values, beliefs, and ego-based thought system.

Clarity. Readiness. A different way of seeing.

Every meaningful journey begins with a moment of honesty.

Not about the world—
But about ourselves.

Before going further, it is worth pausing and asking:

Could I be mistaken about what I have believed?

Am I willing to question long-held assumptions?

Do I want peace more than I want to be right?

Am I open to experiencing relationships in a fundamentally different way?

We do not need immediate answers.

Only a willingness to consider the questions.

Because what follows is not simply a curriculum.
It is a transformation of the mind.

The Foundation We Rarely Question

In construction, everything depends on the foundation.

If the foundation is even slightly misaligned, the entire structure above it must compensate. Walls may appear straight. Floors may feel level. But over time, stress reveals itself—cracks form, doors resist, and subtle tension runs throughout the structure.

Not because the building is flawed…
But because the starting point was.

In much the same way, our experience of life is built upon a set of assumptions—about God (Love), ourselves, and the world. These assumptions are rarely examined. Yet they determine how we interpret everything.

If we are going to build a life grounded in peace, clarity, and purpose, it is worth asking:

Are we building on a foundation that truly supports it?

Four Clarifications That Change the Framework

A Course in Miracles offers several distinctions that can feel unfamiliar—not because they are complex, but because they invite us to reconsider what we have taken for granted.

These are not beliefs you are asked to adopt.
They are ideas you are invited to explore.

1. God and the Physical World

God (Love) did not create the physical universe as we perceive it.

This does not deny our experience.
It reframes it.

Form is not the ultimate reality.
Spirit is primary.

2. Love is not separate from us. We are an extension of Love.

Love does not recognize any separation.

This is not a limitation—it is clarity.
Only what is real can be known.

3. Jesus and Equality

Jesus is not different from us.  He is the first to complete his part perfectly.
He is our elder brother.  Our teacher and guide.

This does not lower him.
It raises everyone.

4. The Meaning of the Crucifixion

The crucifixion is not a required sacrifice for sin.  The resurrection teaches that there is no death.

It becomes a teaching of:

Non-attack

Non-victimhood

Radical shifts in how we see the world

Peace is not dependent on circumstances.

A Shift in Responsibility

If these ideas are even partially true, something fundamental has changed.

We are not passive observers of a world acting upon us.
We are participants in how we perceive and interpret it.

This leads to a deeper question:

Are we willing to take responsibility for our experience?

Not as a burden—
But as a return to fullness.

If we are created by God, then we are not fragile, guilty, or powerless beings trying to survive the world.

We are extensions of a creative Source.

With that come inherent capacities:

To choose perception

To reinterpret (shift perceptions)

To extend Love

To create meaning

To align with Truth

To accept this is to release what no longer serves:

The need to blame

The identity of guilt

The comfort of victimhood

These were understandable interpretations.
But they are not required.

Where the Work Actually Happens

It is natural to assume that change comes from adjusting behavior or improving circumstances.

A Course in Miracles takes a different approach.

It works at the level of our every thought.

Moment by moment, we begin to notice:

What we are thinking

What we believe

What we have accepted as true

Some of these patterns have been in place for decades—
even generations.

And yet, they can be reconsidered.

We begin with a simple question:

Is there another way to see myself in the world?

A Patient Light

This is not a path of pressure or intensity.

It is more like installing a dimmer switch.

We do not flood everything with light at once.
We allow it to increase gradually, as we are willing.

Progress may look subtle:

A pause where there was a reaction

A moment of peace where there was tension

A new interpretation where there was certainty

These are not small shifts.
They are signs that the mind is learning.

An Honest Beginning

You do not need certainty.
You do not need a full understanding.

You only need this:

A willingness to see yourself differently.

If that willingness is present—even slightly—
Then you are ready to begin.
